Is there a site to access to decipher the vin number for a 1966 C60? Also looking for paint info. My truck is yellow with white cab. Thanks for any help.

Here's the way I see it...

C6536S225898

C = Conventional Cab
653 = Model 6503 (with the third number dropped), 175" wb
6 = 1966
S = St Louis Plant
225898 = unit number starting with 1000001 (so you have the 1225,898th unit out of "S" plant)

Engine could be the 292 Six (170 hp) or 366 V8 (220 hp).

Transmission could be any one of 2-different 4-speeds, 5 different 5-speeds or the Allison Automatic.

Rear could be the 15,000 or 17,000 pound Chevrolet Rear in either single or 2-speed.

Thank you sir. Motor is a 366, 5 speed with split shift. 73K original miles, add on A/C at some point. Im finding that there just isnt a lot of info out there on these trucks. Cant figure out the paint on it either. It was repainted a couple of years ago and supposedly the original colors...but cant figure out those colors for a C60.

Jim Carter's web site has color chips...check it out here.

Also look for the paint code number on your truck to see if it's still the original color or not.

The yellow looks like a correct color for the era. Have you looked inside the glovebox door or in the nooks and crannies around the firewall/cowl, those areas are sometimes overlooked on a re-paint and there may be hints of the original color.

The yellow sure looks nice on it though. If it were mine I'd keep it.

It looks ok....there is plenty of the original yellow on it, the guy that painted it didnt do so much on cut in when painting.....this is why Im trying to figure out what color it is or was......I will post a picture of the original yellow in awhile.
