For a '51 panel, I'm missing a rear lower valance. Does anyone make one reproduction?

Jim Carter might still sell the sheet metal piece below the rear doors, and the valance beteen the rear body and the bumper. These were/are made by Metalman in MA.

I know Jim Carter sold the fiberglass reproduction , i don't know of anyone making a steel one.

Thanks for the correction - I think I am getting dotty.

After a little thought, I remembered that Metalman might have made a steel front-valance for a 47-53 New Design GMC, but no metal rear valance. That rear valance, I think, would be the same on all 47-55st GMC/Chevrolet 1/2 ton and 1 ton panel-body trucks?

Sorry - the fiberglass reproductions and fiberglass hanging-brackets are what JC sells (that style is "only game in town"). They are not bad in appearance from the top, but, they are barely able to have the valance-to-bumper rubber-seal glued to a lip in the rear. I am getting dotty - this is what I have on my Suburban (although after about 10 years of looking, I found one almost-usable used metal one).

Tim is correct. I bought the fiberglass for the rear of my panel and used my metal brackets! I got lucky on the front one and picked up a nice metal one at the Stovebolt reunion in K.C. a few years ago for $35.

Jay, it would not hurt to put an ad in the Parts Wanted section. Some guys who post parts there may not look at all the other threads/post here.

I forgot I had it and bought the fiberglass reproduction version from Jim Carter. Ok move. I got it to work but it took a lot of figuring and guesswork to get it to look decent. And then there is the whole rubber seal deal.

Where does it attach to the body?

The original steel rear valance has a groove or track that the rubber slips into. the rubber will be located between the rear valance and rear bumper. A lot of people suggest leaving the rubber weatherstrip off . I was told it collects moisture and dirt in the metal groove and holds it causing rust.

I do not drive my Suburban much in a year. Since it gets cleaned (hose spray) when dirty/dusty, nothing gets built up below or above my rear valance rubber seal.

..yeah, we don't have to drive on the old red dirt roads like we did in the 50's and 60's ! I like my fiberglass but would take a nice metal one if it came along.
