It is an aftermarket heater (not sure exactly which brand). There were numerous options available back then, Firestone, B.F. Goodrich, Arvin, Montgomery-Wards (Sears), etc.

The two standard heaters available from GM in '54 were versions of these.

The 53-55 1st Series Air-Flow differs in that they have a door as shown here.

Nice info, thanks.

I like the heater as it is funky and weird and will not be driving in the snow... Down the road when I yank that puppy out, I will have to let people know.

I have one just like it that I pulled out of a parts truck. Well, just a bit more crusty than yours.

I apologize in advance for using photobucket. I need to switch to something else.

Thanks for posting the crusty heater... Now I have an idea of what I will be digging into without digging into it!

I have a 6 volt heater and am running a 12 volt system, I ran a resister wire type voltage reducer. I live in Indiana and it has worked for many years. Don't use this type for gauges.

I was planning on using one for my gauges, What is the problem with them?

No problem with mine that I know of, but I am new to the truck ...

the heater is not connected (electrical or plumbing) and that is most likely due to the 12volt conversion (I hope) ... I need to yank it and test it. If Motor still good, then will have to step down the voltage or get a 12 volt motor....

Then again it could just leak or leak and have a fried motor or ....... another mystery to solve.
