on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2017 Posts: 87 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2017 Posts: 87 | I have been lurking in the shadows for some time reading all the incredible enlightening threads.
I sold my 92 Heritage Soft-tail to purchase a 1954 3 window, 235ci w/ less than 1000 miles on rebuild, 4 speed sm420 tranny, 3.55 to 1 closed rear end, Fenton split exhaust, std intake with Rochester carb.
I also acquired two - 235 engines from 210s (think 1956), including power glide tranny, torque tube, and axle. Not sure what I will do with them, but always handy to have laying around from a friend's dad who also has 7 - 265 V8's.

Sounds like a really nice ride. There are other bolters in Illinois, depending on what section your in so watch for them. This is the best truck site on the net...period. I don't check in here as often as I should but your 'handle' caught my eye. I'm intrigued by your name and wondered how you arrived at it? You'll see by my location i'm from the home of the kilt hence my curiosity. Good luck with your new project. 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr. I do more judging and coaching than throwing these days. I am looking forward to using my 1954 3100 in pulling my trailer in parades in an effort to advertise the festival; the granny gear should be nice for that! I have discovered the awesomeness of this board and have yet to come across a question that has not been answered one way or another. As for my project, I am wise or have dumb luck in that I am purchasing this truck off a co-worker who is the third owner; it is in very good shape with some issues. I have not turned a wrench in over 20 yrs (besides on my harley). It is a project that will not overwhelm me but have some good challenging fixes, which should keep my interest. The engine has been rebuilt less than 1000 miles ago and the body is solid (will have to replace the floor in the future but will enjoy it a while before surgery). I also have two backup 235s engines from 1956 210s', which will allow me to tinker well still being able to drive. I also can get my hands on one of 7 - 265's V8s and several 283 small blocks but I am going to stick with the 235 - that is another story. Immediate goals are - either find an original bench seat or remount the current seat.
- power disk brakes (I noticed how you angled your rear tranny bracket to avoid the power brake setup - nice)
- Suspension work
- Ranger Torque splitter or tranny swap.

It maybe a while before I make many posts as I am learning and researching using this board. Have been able to answer my questions, often with more than one solution. Awesome stuff here!
The only question is why is my engine blue and not gray. All the codes tell me it is a 1954 so I am assuming when it was rebuilt, the rebuilder painted blue as in passenger car blue.

What is your engine serial number (pressed into the block behind the distributor).
Blue was the most common 6-cylinder car engine color after 1953. Many rebuild shops painted a 235 blue (Blue Flame blue).

Serial # ends w/ F54X. Flint 1954 truck

I was freaked out by the color and have to assume, like you, the rebuild shop painted blue. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2017 Posts: 87 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2017 Posts: 87 | Tim, I forgot to add a thank you for the resources you have put on line, it is very helpful. Thank you for satisfying my curiosity, there are quite a few 'bolters here claim a Scottish connection, either by genetics or just a love of our culture. Knowing this bunch here it's more than likely just a love of single malt whisky...... Why not go the whole hog and paint the truck with this ? That would sure stand out in the parade. I believe Autozone sell it,it's on the shelf next to the muffler bearings and blinker fluid...... 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr. Some of us must admit a certain affinity for your single malts. No Scottish ancestry here, though.
We won't go into my ancestry ... I doubt my ancestors are remembered very fondly anywhere in the British Isles ....
