Hy TGP, nice truck, I'm just wondering how many miles you got out of the original 348 or 409 before you repowered with a big block Chevrolet truck engine 366 or 427?
Thanks.
The 409 was a great engine.
We averaged about 200 miles a day hauling. It would usually make 70,000 to 90,000 miles before needing a rebuild.
Depending on Dust conditions. Had one go 100,000
I rebuilt it for the last time in 1980.
Parts were getting hard to find.
It was replaced with a 427 in 1988.
I'm guessing the truck has little over 500,000 Miles on it.
I can't remember how many times it was rebuilt.
Other than that, one main trans. rebuild(Clark), spring repair, Aux Trans rebuild(Spicer) the truck performed flawlessly.
Fyi
The 409 would out pull the 427 powered and early 3208 Cat engine powered trucks up any grade.
