TGP 'Bolter T Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 111 Metro East IL.	Bought this truck in 1967 Spent many hours in that seat. Well life got in they way and truck has sat for The last ten years. Been retired now going on 4 years and been catching up On my projects. This past weekend was her turn with the wrench. Rebuilt the Carb, cleaned fuel system, battery, plugs fired right up. Everything worked but a few lights, even built air and The shutters closed until it warmed up! Have two rust spots to fix, one minor, one major, Then paint. 3B 'Bolter 3 Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,061 B. C. Canada	Hy TGP, nice truck, I'm just wondering how many miles you got out of the original 348 or 409 before you repowered with a big block Chevrolet truck engine 366 or 427?

ESum 'Bolter E Joined: Nov 2014 Posts: 70 Georgia	Noticed the auxiliary transmission shifter I always thought that they would be a real challenge to drive. Is it a 5 speed main and 4 speed auxiliary? ESum

The 409 was a great engine. We averaged about 200 miles a day hauling. It would usually make 70,000 to 90,000 miles before needing a rebuild. Depending on Dust conditions. Had one go 100,000 I rebuilt it for the last time in 1980. Parts were getting hard to find. It was replaced with a 427 in 1988. I'm guessing the truck has little over 500,000 Miles on it. I can't remember how many times it was rebuilt. Other than that, one main trans. rebuild(Clark), spring repair, Aux Trans rebuild(Spicer) the truck performed flawlessly. Fyi The 409 would out pull the 427 powered and early 3208 Cat engine powered trucks up any grade. Is it a 5 speed main and 4 speed auxiliary? It's not hard, once you learn how. It has a 5 speed Clark and a 3 speed Spicer. Not sure why it didn't get the 4 speed. It was ordered with everything else Chevrolet had in the day. The truck was 3 years old when I got it from a Court Sale.
