on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2016 Posts: 13 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2016 Posts: 13 | I am new to the Stovebolt forums. While I have been reading the forums for some time and benefitting from all your advice I have not actually joined in any of the discussions. I bought my ’47 6400 way back in 2008 but did not have the opportunity to begin working on it until the fall of 2014. I found the truck on Ebay and brought it from eastern Nebraska to Wyoming. My campground business usually slows down in September and I bring the truck in to keep me busy between customers. The first year I had the radiator and fuel tank cleaned out and reworked. I also had new field coils put in the starter. A new fuel pump, filter and carb rebuild got the engine up and running. I cleaned out the cab, shined up the speedo (washed off the odometer numbers too), rebuilt the seat, and fixed the glove box (and it’s door). Then I installed new door, cowl and air vent weather stripping along with a new drain hose for the cowl tub. Had to replace the Master Cylinder because the other one was too corroded to work properly. I will probably have to rebuild the Hydro Vac next. I skipped 2015 in favor of another project. Then this year it became apparent that I was going to have to rebuild the wooden stake bed. It had some very interesting construction features that needed to be duplicated if I was going to be able to reuse the original sides and the aluminum metal trim. I finished up that project a week ago and I’m pretty proud of the way it turned out. I have to wait until spring to seal it up so I will leave the hoist up all winter to keep the snow from laying on it too long. I posted some pictures to photobucket if anyone would like to check out my project: http://s1248.photobucket.com/user/Wyoupser/library/47%20Chevy%20Big%20Bolt?sort=2&page=1 Thank you all for your help and I look forward to contributing as I may in the future.

Looks like it extends past the rear wheels quite a ways. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2015 Posts: 2,063 Big Bolt Forum Moderator | | Big Bolt Forum Moderator Joined: Dec 2015 Posts: 2,063 | welcome to the bolt! It sure ate up a bunch of material. There must be 40 pounds of carriage bolts in it too.

As befits me it is named Lazy Acres. The truck is center stage in our webcam at the moment. I have a few people who visit the cam often and they are all pretty excited to see progress on "that old truck".

Sometimes it's hard to tell the true condition of something when you see it on Ebay but this truck just spoke to me and I had to have it. I wasn't really ready to take it on as a project then but I'm pumped now.

That's fine looking truck you have. A very nice job on the bed! I noticed you have what looks like a very functional spare tire carrier. If you have time, can you send me or post a few photos of the carrier set up? I think I have maybe half of a carrier and I am curious what the complete set up looks like / consists of.
Thank you for your help.

I hate to say it but it took me about half a day to coax those wing nuts on that carrier off the hanger bolts. PB rust blaster has been a godsend. Once I got them loose and off the truck I chased all the threads and then spread some No Lox on them. They work pretty good now. Here are some pictures I got for you before it got too dark tonight. Hope they help. http://s1248.photobucket.com/user/W...Chevy%20Tire%20Carrier?sort=3&page=1

It is a reproduction of the one that came with the truck when I got it. The sides are set up for grain hauling but can be doubled in height to accommodate larger loads (and probably livestock). Thanks for the positive comments.
