It's in incredibly original condition, I just need to get it home so I can get it running (and stopping). It appears to not have any rust through and I'm anxious to get it home. My plans are to use it as an occasional daily driver. It still has the 6V system and the 15 inch split rims. I had a 50 GMC and a 51 Chevy when I was in high school and finally I can do this right. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 4,215 Moderator | | Moderator Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 4,215 | Welcome, when are you bringing it home? Maybe you can post up a link to some pics... Good luck with it. I live in Colorado Springs so it changes quick here. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Welcome to the Stovebolt, NoJunker. Glad to have you aboard. I'm sure you can contribute a lot to the Garage Forums.
I may also add that I have seen several Colorado bolters here lately so watch for them. You may have one next door. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 17 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 17 | Driver's Side A picture of my truck as I found it. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 2,990 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 2,990 | Looks like you got a good one! You even have the spare tire carrier and it looks like original rear view mirror. The patina is great. Welcome and good luck. I would be going crazy until I got it home. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 17 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 17 | Spent Wednesday morning at the DMV. But...the title was signed by the deceased owner but the daughter never transferred it. Older Colorado title needs a notary....so more paperwork she's going to send me. Hope I can go get it next weekend. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Hang in there. Little by little but you will git R done. Keep us posted and good luck. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 17 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 17 | It's been a busy weekend. Friday, went to the Colorado DMV and had the right paperwork. The lady who assisted us has an uncle fixing her Dad's 68 Firebird for her - old cars and trucks, makes things so smooth. Saturday we went up to pick it up two come-alongs to get it on the trailer - exercise. The plates on it expired in 2001 so its been sitting awhile. There are mice droppings so pulled the seat before we left the country and two small field mice left their safe home. Today I took the seats out of the cab and vacuumed up mice droppings and scrubbed with ammonia and dawn mixture - smells much better but until I get the seat torn down and reupholstered it'll still have a smell. The bed was a piece of old rotted plywood so that's out as well. Put some Marvel Mystery oil in each cylinder. Couldn't get to the crank to spin it but turning the fan and holding the belt got the crank to move. Finding things as I go along - the cab corners do have rust. At one time the roof was dented in back by a load I guess. someone used a slide hammer and bondo - now there are slide hammer holes I'll need to braze or weld. The key didn't come with it so I'll need to order one - probably just wire a toggle switch around it until I get one. It came with 4 - 8lug 16.5 wheels in the bed. It has the 15 inch solid "spit ring" rims on it now. Break peddle goes to the floor - look into that soon. Now to rest for a week at the office so I can get to it again next weekend. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2016 Posts: 1,101 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2016 Posts: 1,101 | Keep at it. Sounds like you got a good start. I picked up and started my rebuild on 1/1/16. I couldn't stop smiling the first time I was able to get mine on the road. I smile every time I drive it. Good luck. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,441 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,441 | NoJunker, thanks for the update. Remember we have many sub-forums for your pleasure. Some are area specific and some are general. There is also a couple for keeping us informed of your progress. The problem with posting updates here in the Welcome Forum is a vast majority of our members don't visit here but once in a great while. The other forums will let more folks see what you are up to. Hope you wore a dust mask while cleaning out the cab. Those mice carry some nasty stuff you don't want to get up your nose. Fun project. Keep us posted.
