Well I got some crummy news today; my boat won't be going to Hawaii as soon as originally planned. It'll be staying in Virginia for 2 deployments and then changing homeport. So I won't see Hawaii.

I'm sort of bummed because I didn't really want to stay here, but now I'm thinking about getting my truck out here to do the drive train swap that I want.

Few different ways I could go about doing this, getting it shipped, driving it as is (which I'd have to do some minor things to it, like lights), or buying the truck I want to use as a donor and then tow it here.

I'm in no rush, just putting this out there. Bummed but maybe this will be the silver lining. I definitely think I could get it driving with the new drive train in the 2-3 years I'd be left here.

Let me know what you guys think, maybe I'll have more updates soon.

Move Forward. NO waiting around. A little each day and it'll be on the road before you know it. Its amazing what a few minutes, maybe just 15 each day, will do for a project.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

Oh I know, couldn't agree more! There are so many little things to do that I have the parts to do it and I end up just dreaming about it.

I'm just unsure about the whole ordeal. Shipping would definitely be the easiest thing to do, towing it would be fun in my opinion. Driving it would definitely be an interesting experience. Paul Nolz on here has had similar trips in his 48 and gave me tips almost 2 years ago now from when I was thinking about doing this before. Back when I was told we would be here for about year.

But it's things like where would I keep it? I need a place big enough and that will allow cutting and welding. How easy is it going to be to find parts that I want locally? Those are my only real concerns. Everything else I'm sure I could figure out.

I have an idea of where I could keep it, need to talk to some people. And once I have all my parts in front of me it'll go together quickly because I've been planning this drive train for quite awhile.

Regardless of how I decide to do it I'll need to go back to California and do some stuff and it's hard to get enough time with the schedule right now. It'll slow down quite a bit after sea trails so maybe it'll look easier then.
