Does anyone with welding skills think this can be done relatively easily? I want to have 4 doors on it, not just stretch the cab. Any suggestions on this, or am I living in a pipe dream? Thanks, Mike

It also requires access to metalworking tools that are not commonly available.
There are a few companies out there that specialize in this type of work. They usually work on new trucks, but can be persuaded to work on older vehicles. These companies try to avoid older vehicles because there is usually a lot of rust repair and structural beefing that is necessary to do it correctly.
Crew cabs are not cheap. Expect to pay at least $10,000 for all of the sheetmetal work and frame lengthening. The custom crew cabs on new trucks can run $30,000 to $40,000 out the door.
One company that comes to mind is Alton Fabrication. I think they are in Minnesota, but I could be wrong about that. I was gonna do build a crew cab out of my previous 64 C10. Sometimes I wish I did. I like mine C20 Crewie but would have allowed for a bit longer stretch so that the rear door were full size and the hinges hidden. Other than that I think my beast is still pretty KEWL! His rear doors are made from 2 doors a piece to get that same angle front and back.
Also somewhere I have some pics from the 54 Salesmen data book that showed a cab over crew cab as an option even then.

MONGO There's a bunch of stuff in the factory data books that hasn't shown up...like the '54 GMC 1-ton CE. If anyone sees one, let me know! On the crew cab issue, the roof is a real bugger to get right, from what I've seen. | | |
