Does anyone know any info on this size truck or where I could find info? It has the Pontiac V8, Dayton wheels single axle. It was a well drilling truck and the person who has it bought it for the drilling apparatus. It also has what appears to be an air horn on the roof so I am thinking it would have air brakes. I can basically get the truck for scrap value. The owner just wants it to go to a good home. | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,538 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,538 | 600 series GMC is a 5 ton truck during that era. There's some Sales Literature on it, on ebay now. | | | | Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 | I looked at it tonight. It's 29900 gvw and has air brakes. Poncho v8 that runs.....paid 300 for it. | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,538 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,538 | | | | | Joined: Dec 2015 Posts: 2,061 Big Bolt Forum Moderator | Big Bolt Forum Moderator Joined: Dec 2015 Posts: 2,061 | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 Crusing in the Passing Lane | Crusing in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 |

It's a bit rough but savable. Going to put a dt466 and 6 speed. Going to set it up like a single axle tractor with a sleeper. Something a little different than Big Bertha to tow around my stuff. I just hope I can come up with a title....trying to go through the state to find the last owner who titled it. Was used for years off road as a well driller. Might be easier to find a junk truck with title.... | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 | Cool truck! Are you going to put the fender flares back on or leave them off? Mike B | | | | Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 | I will be putting the front fenders back on. Can't run it like that in PA. Anyone know how to decode the vin? It's only 9 digits long. 602 S2070H I was told it was a 56 but not sure | | | | Joined: May 2012 Posts: 574 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: May 2012 Posts: 574 | I love the big GMC trucks like that, they look like big bullfrogs!! someday I'll hopefully find one......

If you do that, it's probably best you don't tell us about it. That's not exactly above board and most people here don't condone that sort of thing. | | | | Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 | I was being sarcastic.....if you knew how the PA DMV works you would understand.... | | | | Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 1,159 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 1,159 | nice Score,Shane! Big Bertha is a TRUE work of Art! Can't wait to see what you do with this rig! I hauled ice for four years, assigned to the same truck during that time. 1980 S-Series International 2200. DT466/10 Speed "Ranger",and tandem drive. It broke down on me ONCE. It needed a new radiator cap! Very dependable engines! | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,903 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,903 | The vin with an S in it should have been born with a 371 Olds engine that GMC called a 370 with a New Process 541 transmission behind it and an 18,000 Eaton 2 speed. It is a sister to my first semi that I drove over 50 years ago. However, it may have a Pontiac engine in it now because a Pontiac would have been original to a 400 to 500 series. A 550 would have the Olds engine. Fenders from a 400, 500 or 600 series will fit it. The cab is the same as a pickup. I have several of them in my collection now. The album also has a picture of my original one. https://plus.google.com/u/0/1126369...1091222818&oid=112636930370126476644 | | | | Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 | Thanks for the info. I found out from the guy who runs the old gmc website it is a 1958. He also told me to look on the glove box door for info but it is missing as well as the dash is all hacked up. I'll have to find a donor dash someone is willing to cut out. I have found fenders already. | | |
