Hello, My name is Adam, I'm 17 and live in North Carolina. Recently I've really gotten into these trucks, so I found one on the local Craigslist, and sealed the deal. It's a 1961 Chevy Apache-10 with a Chevy 350 small block. ( Image: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cg2JLrlUgAQ_ZoD.jpg )

I don't really know where to start on it, and I don't really have any experience, but I'm slowly teaching myself. Anyone have any tips for me?

Trying to find the right truck....
If anyone sees a complete 60-66 C10 or K10 on the East Coast for under $1,000 please let me know

Welcome Adam, not a bad looking truck at all. A good first step is the one you took already, joining the stovebolt forum. All the knowledge you need is here. We like to help out, particularly with the younger crowd. Just keep on teaching yourself, you'll be able to learn a lot of new skills.

Get yourself a shop manual, they're available from the vendors listed in the 'links' at the top of the page.

Some folks choose to take the whole thing apart and do a frame off restoration. Others make the truck safe, then work at it as they have time, being able to drive it as you go. You can take it to truck events or cruises and see what others have.

Let us know how you make out, we are interested. Good luck!

welcome to the site! your truck looks like it is in pretty good shape! As Leo said, you came to the right place for information! When I first get a rig, I like to tinker on the small and safety things first, get lights all working, make sure it runs well, and STOPS! Oh, did I mention brakes?!? Those are a must have! I would rather be able to stop than go! Once I get it safe to drive, I drive it for a while and work on it as I go, figuring out what I want to end up with and then make a plan to get there!

Get it to GO and WHOA and it'll talk to you and let you know what it needs!
Glad to see you here. We need younger folks to pass on the tribal secrets!
There are quite a few bolters in the N.C. area so watch the location of bolters as they post. I actually live in S.C. but I'm real close to Shelby/Charlotte area. Are you close enough to enjoy a hot dog or some BBQ, and of coarse a cold Pepsi!

Be sure to ask your questions in the most fitting garage forum to get the best, and the most, answers. See ya around the shop.

Welcome!

As the others have said, I'd make sure it was drivable and drive it for a while. As time goes on you will decide what you want to do with it. Do a little at a time and it won't overwhelm you.

Welcome to the site! You could not have chosen a better brand (Chevy/GMC) or a better engine. You are officially addicted to the hobby.
