This is a daily driver, most weeks I drive at least a 100 miles, what would be the best tire size to buy ? and should I replace the split rims? If so with what? Thanks! | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,441 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,441 | SiG, did you do a search within Stovebolt.com? This topic has been hashed to death hundreds of times. You should find lots of opinions. Btw, I personally don't like split rims but to each his own. Good luck.

These are 16" x 6" rims with 8 holes and have the +.5" offset so you clear the tie rod ends. They work great. LT 215 / 85R16 will get you very close to the original tire diameter. Dexstar wheels are available from www.etrailer.com Good luck.

Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 2,168 | I'm looking at these rims for my 1 ton 1950. Looks like the perfect solution. I have a couple questions: 1. Does this tire and rim combo and size "look" as right as my 7.5x17 1ton tires? I'm also curious as to using the original clips for the hubcaps on the new rim. Is it advisable to drill holes in to the rim in order to mount the clips? Or better to weld them on? Might be a silly question but I'd hate to wreck a rim by drilling and would as much hate to wreck a perfect black powder coat just to install some clips by welding.i have all the hubcaps for this truck and don't need to purchase new ones. Thanks for the input. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 2,168 A teacher, but always an apprentice. | | A teacher, but always an apprentice. Since my rear tires were like new I started calling arround to see what I could get. Most places couldnt get 7.50-17 tires, and one told me that he has installed 235/80R17 tires on old Chevys and they work out fine. I finally found a place that could get me Samson Traker Plus Highway tires in 7.50-17 for $193 each (Canadian dollars) and bought them. If you are in the US Summit racing sells the Coker tires, but shipping to Canada was to expensive for me. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2013 Posts: 614 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2013 Posts: 614 | Fox, Been doing a lot of searching on this. Decided to bite the bullet and go for the Excelisor stahl sport radial with tubes by Cooker tire. Almost the exact profile as the stock bias ply but in radial, with the nastalga look. Only setback is cost. Also it's not a working truck anymore. But it should be the last set of tires this truck will ever see. Still enjoy watching your progress!!! Looks great! Never a problem in almost 10,000 miles. No rubbing or bumping even with 2,000 lbs of hay in the bed.
