I've used POR15 type paint before, would it work, or would Rustoleum be OK? Any inexpensive suggestions, its is not a show truck but deserves better than the pits it shows! | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Cheap? Try the rustoleum.
....is there someone close by that does powder coating. I'd think that would be nice and from stuff I've had done powder coating them would be T O U G H for a long time. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 60 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 60 | Powder coating is expensive her-I'm undecided at this time. Started to install the door handle ferules today- along with installing the side glass. I have new rubber/steel channel/whiskers too, but right off the bat, I found out the hole for the handle in the passenger door is not large enough for the ferule. Looks like someone has worked on that hole before. Now I'll have to carefully try and open it up some before I try pressing the new ferule in (fr China- its very light). I ordered the windlace for the glass, and its one piece, but does not cover the whole channel from bottom w/glass down to the top. I'm under the impression that the windlace does not attach to the top of the door frame- other has stated that and I'm pretty convinced- plus I dont have enough to do it anyway!

H/F sells powder and the application gun. Any heat source 'like a gas grill' over about 400 degrees will set the powder. Easy to touch up or redo whenever you want... Just get the hard hat can...it's the best aerosol paint you can buy. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 60 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 60 | I had some Krylon satin NICKEL that looks nice with my semi gloss paint on the cab. I'll have to try the hard hat can- have used the other type many times. I have done powder coating in the past and it has failed on pot metal. When the part get heated to melt the powder the pot metal out gasses and you get pin holes all over the part.
