| | | | Joined: Mar 2016 Posts: 225 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2016 Posts: 225 | Original plan was to do a complete frame-off on a 1950 Chevy Custom Deluxe, (friend had one years ago and I thought it would be cool to do). But the Mrs. said an older truck would be cooler. She won the argument. Bought a 1951 3100 5-window on January 2nd from a guy in north Arkansas that he had posted on Craigslist.
The plan is to get it be back exactly like it was when it drove off the showroom floor.
Engine is already at the machine shop and should have it assembled in the next couple of weeks.
What impresses me the most, is the basic simple design of everything on these trucks. Shame they didn't retain that through the years. Gonna be fun.
And, glad I found the Stovebolt site. Lots and lots of good info so far.

And I need to add to my original post, that I'm glad that we went with the truck, instead of the car. Confirmation that the wives may actually know better?
I raced oval track for 10 years, so the mechanic work and body work really don't bother me.
Guy I got the truck from said "Oh yea, the motor was running a couple of months ago', which was truth-fabrication. Head had spider web cracks in every combustion chamber. Block had already been bored and had a bunch of wear. But, I kind of expected some stretching of the truth.
However, a guy I do business with, has a 1953 3100, that he has hot-rodded, (Camaro clip, LS1 V-8, etc.), so he sold me the complete 216, with transmission, for little of nothing, just to get rid of it. He was going to haul it off for scrap. Head is good and the block is standard bore. I must be living right.

It's cool to see where everybody's location is. And yesterday I saw that Red 49 Truck is not that far at all from me.
So I look a pics of his truck, and others for that matter, and having spent every weekend and a lot of weekday evenings since January working on restoring my 1951, I can truly appreciate what those that have done this, went through. Most of us know what we're in for doing this. So far, I'm having a great time.
