Here I go again needing help. I put a 283 in my 66 C10 and it has the short water pump on it. I bought aluminum brackets for the power steering and I would like to do the same for the alternator. The crazy thing is is I can't find a bracket unless I have the long water pump. But I don't know the difference or will the long one go on my 283 or do I want a long one at all. It would put the fan closer to the radiator if that matters. Got any advise.

Thanks
Rocky

to me the fan, close to the radiator, is a good thing and some folks have to use a fan spacer to get the fan close...as within a half inch. You should have plenty of room and if you have a heating/hot problem the closer to the radiator and a fan shroud would be a good thing. I doubt a hot problem in Utah!

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

Have you tried http://www.alangrovecomponents.com/?

Not sure they do aluminum though... but they do make excellent, simple brackets.

As for the fan being close to the radiator.. as long as you have a correct shroud that won't be an issue.

Hope that helps.

there is a relationship between the shroud and the fan to be efficient. the fan should sit right in the opening of the shroud, not inside of it. if you are running stock exhaust manifolds that is where the alt should mount on the s/pump.
with headers there are mounts that attach to the frt exhaust flange outlet. jegs or summit may have something. fan shouldn't be any closer than 3/4"

There was an article on a web site about pumps and if I change to the long pump I will have to buy new pulleys because they are different for each pump so I will stick with the short pump.

Thanks John for the link that bracket will work but I can't just by the one I need I have to buy two brackets but I will look around else were because that bracket will work just fine.

Hi Ron I am glade you mentioned the shroud I haven't been looking for one but I will get started. At least I know now what size to buy.

climberman, have you thought about using the brackets off a V6 S-10 which you can use the brackets and go to a serpentine belt. Switch your water pump for a V6 pump (reverse) and your set to go. Saves money too.

I would have never thought of all that achipmunk but now I have bought all of the pulleys and brackets for the Power steering. I went ahead and bought the bracket from the link John gave me they were really helpful. I sent them pictures of my motor and we decided that it was a fit.
