1. Is this like the originals,and I'll be able to find them used, if I can slither under one of these junk yard trucks?
2. How do they attach, I've seen diagonals and straight, centered front to back ones on modern trucks.
3. Can you buy new?

I believe it was in the Tech tips section on this very site. Basically, they made a crdboard templat ant traced oval onto fender, cut it out and inverted removed piece and welded into place for proper concave section to clear spare. Hopefully more will chime in as to typically how most 55's carried their spare. My '50 has a straight running bracket from front to back. This long bracket is riveted to a cross brace.
I would think though by carefully looking under the bed, there must be signs of how your spare was originally attached. No ?

Do a search on all forum for "spare tire carrier" and you'll get tons of info on both the early AD slide-out and the later drop racks.
Post an ad in the Swap Meet if yours is missing. I had a 70 chev truck and know roughly how it was, but wasn't sure what should have been on my 55.1. I have spent quite a bit of time under mine repairing and attaching the box, and I havent seen anything but suspicious holes where it might have been. Thanks again!
