When I took the windshield wiper motor out of the '48 2 ton, I kept the linkage retaining clip on the motor so as not to loose it. Kept it in place during the rebuild.
Went to install the motor, removed the clip and put it in a Safe Place. Motor is in, clip is nowhere to be found.

Wish I could find "Safe Place", must be hundreds of things stored there.

Glad it's just not me. Lord knows what's in my safe place.
Last week I put my brand new oil transfer pump in the trash can, to let the remaining drops of oil go onto paper towels in the bottom of the can. Yesterday I donated it to a landfill.

Try your local autoparts store for an e clip that might work.

If you are talking about the dual clip with spring to hold the linkages on the wiper motor under the dash, they are available at places like LMCtruck and other old truck restoration parts stores for a couple bucks.

Check your pockets... I consider that a "safe place".

As I get older, I've noticed I do the same stupid thing. Now I try to remember to say (inside voice usually) "now you just stay right there until I come back for you". This usually helps me remember where I put it... if "it" listens!

I was slowly taking the door panel off the truck when one of the small round clips shot off into the black Abbis of the garage. I searched and searched for days. Couldn't find it So had to make one up. Not easy but I did it. Yup you guest it. I found it. Tucked in a small gap in the handle of the plastic box that we store to be recycled bottles. On the bright side, I now have a spare that I will never need.

You want to find something you've misplaced, just buy/build another. Poof! Magic, it'll turn up.

I have a wire wheel on a bench grinder on a pedestal. Works great for cleaning small parts.
Works better for slinging rare, hard to find small parts throughout the shop, never to be seen again.

Just like dropping that same small hard to find part on a gravel driveway.
