Can anyone tell me if there were different castings, and therefore casting numbers, for the early '54 engines with the small-journal camshaft vs. later '54 235 engines with the large-journal camshaft? I have a '54 from a 3100; the block is cast "3835911" and by the look of the distributor gears, it has a forged i.e. small journal shaft, yet I see this casting number listed for the '55 1st series as well, which post dates the change to the large journal cam. Was the same casting used for both?

Check Here A
It says something about small/large journal camshaft engines.
Not sure if engine cast number will tell you what size the camshaft journals are used in the engine.

Check Here B
Group number 0.519 camshafts
Scroll down page you will see bearings.
Bearings continue on next page.

I have found sources listing these block casting codes for

1954 truck 235:
3701481
3702436
3835911 (supposedly also used in Corvette 235 in 1954 & 1955)
3701488 listed in one source

1955-1st truck 235:
3733949

1955-2nd truck 235:
3836233 (used again in 1956)
