I want 15" rims for my 8-lug axle. Was there an factory regular non-split type rims of that type. I'm looking for the older variants. Not modern types. I have seen pics so I know they exis, but I don't know on what type of truck they came on.
Did Chevy ever had them?

This has been an ongoing problem and it does not appear that GM had a wheel that you are wanting.
I also thought about knocking the centers out of the old split rims and having them welded to a modern outer rim but after finding these 16 inchers gave up on that idea. Because of the dropped center the ID of the rim is much smaller than that of the 15" two piece rim. If you tried to use the center from a two piece rim in a 16" tubeless rim, it would have to be cut back from 14.25" to a little over 13". This would remove the support flange from the two piece center and result in Tee joint where the center is welded into the new rim. This is a bad design and will eventually lead to cracks at the Tee joint. If you look at the centers of most rims they will have a flange that is pressed into the rim and a lap weld to secure it. There is very little load imposed on the weld, most of the stress is transferred thru the formed flange to the wheel center. Here is a 15" two piece center compared to a 16" Ford tubeless rim. http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/image/161147883/largedg

The question really lies in: "Will it fit over the brakes?" I know a 16" rim would be a tight fit for mine (original drums), thus I have 17's. IIRC, GM didn't offer 15" rims for 8-lug axles, at least on the Advance Design trucks. What year truck are you looking at?

I'm pretty sure I have seen 15" regular wheels with 8-lug centers. But they could have been custom made of course. It wouldn't be difficult to take the centers out and turn them down to fit a 15" rim.
I will continue the search and if I can't find anything I will go with 16"

For the most part, most modern 15" tires are going to be too low of a capacity rating to handle a 3/4 ton truck, with maybe the exception of the LT 235/75/15, which is a 6 ply rated tire. Is the tire you're looking at available in other sizes?
