I purchased the truck from a friend who has been hounding me to take it off his hands to build a rod out of. I kinda needed something to take all of my free time! I'm sure many will cringe with what's next but that's ok. First thing I did was chopped 8 inches out of the top. It is a basket case I thought I was getting sheetmetal (no usable wood) and a complete rolling chassis in great condition to not have been stored all these years. After I chopped it and removed all original steering, suspension and wiring. The previous owner informed me that I have boxes of some new parts and some with the disassembled parts(orig). I was formerly a chevy mech. But newer and older stuff is none the same. So now I have lots of parts for sale. I had marked out halving the frame and using top of one side 180*spin to box the other side and have since decided to just build a new frame from scratch 3x2x.1875 notch and narrowed rear section. I use to race dirt latemodels so I have a lot of left over parts. I'll just run the front with that stuff. The hardest part is not knowing what's missing (no actual body part diagrams). I made a platform/jig to reconfigure the cab but didn't have door sills that I knew of and have no idea what connects top of windshield to rear top quarters so I built a temporary wood frame to support. I have been at it for about 5 mo.(I work in duluth minn. 3 weeks a month home 1 week Cookeville Tn. have 2 kids and wife. 1000mi. Drive each way). Needless to say I truck work at night while they sleep. Found 1 door sill (and a few other much needed pieces)in corner of prev. Owners garage thank god. Could build the body on the frame because I have no floor to support anything and the temp structure wasn't keeping it square enough for door positioning and so forth. I came into this with a "rat rod just make it function" mentality but the more pieces I find the more I want semi original. I have no idea what entails making the roof other than the side sheet metal and 2 cross pieces. Thought I had 2 more diff pieces but I am thinking they are actually hood seal holders. I have began making wood supports for replacing rotted door wood and have made good progress but am halted by not having the door latching assembly. I have outside t handle(1) 1 window reg. and glass. But glass broke and I was gonna use lexan anywho. I also have a set of 37 truck front fenders w/boards. Hold your breath and don't laugh....I put them on the rear and took my boards off a little sheet metal work and locating a splash apron for driv. Side some custom bed fab over the inside of the fenders and we have it. It's a project with lots of ideas. Had it mocked up but took apart for frame work. Will post pics next. Even with all the challenges it sounds like fun to me. I love the old stuff just about any way we can find it.
I think Tiny may have sent you in the right direction. Check the gallery for trucks like yours. They may not post here regularly but many are lurking and reading. If not, send them a note.
