I can't find the correct replacement shock links for my 1948 3100. I've been through this in years past and it's as if I am the only one who requires this type of link. I found a front one somewhere, I don't remember where about 12 years ago but it was hard to find even back then. I need a rear link, it has a 10" shaft. If I measure from the center of the mounting hole in the yoke to the end of the shaft, it would be about 12" in length. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement? littlebuddie, if you can't find one....might try the swap meet, but it looks like a piece of rod the right diameter from Lowes/Ace Hardware along with a piece of flat metal, also from Ace/Lowes and you could make your own. A tap and die set and you could be in business. A good Friday night or Saturday morning project. You can do it.

Hi Achipmunk, thanks for your reply, you always come forward with help no matter how insignificant the question and I appreciate it. I was thinking also that it wouldn't be hard to fabricate such a simple piece, I can do everything but the spot welds as I only have acetylene outfit and I am not that skilled to do such small welds with it. Are these unique shock links? I can assure they are factory but never seen repos like them. However, the other 'dog bone' type are readily available. Thanks again my friend!

....bend the "flat bar" and drill a hole in it. Thread the rod and then use a nut on both sides. "stake" them good so they would never come loose. Wish you lived next door, had some shop time this morning and a fridge full of cold Pepsi!

Great idea Achipmunk! I guess I could also thread a slim lock nut 3" from the end and stake that to make the little bushing stop (the blip near the end). Thanks!!

I'll have to wait till tomorrow to call them. Wonder why they're so difficult to source with all of the classic parts sellers out there.

I think it is more about cross-referencing them for application. These links were used in a variety of applications other than trucks. Sources would be those vendors specializing in the other GM divisions.

Nice roundup of shock links Brad Allen! When I approach the after-market vendors with my query on the links I need, they more or less respond to me as if to say, 'You don't know what you are talking about' or 'The previous owner put the wrong parts on.' The deal is, my dad bought the truck new and it has been in my ownership over 47 years so I know this truck very well. I'm glad you are savvy and understand. I'll post when/if I either buy or fabricate links. Thanks very much for your input.

or slide a nice fitting flat washer on it and weld it....

Hope you find some new ones. The project sounds interesting though.
