I am in the short rows of finishing up my custom 53. I have installed the seal in the windlace. I have the outer seal and I think I want to use it. Couple of questions. First....I don't recall ever seeing this seal on any trucks at shows etc. Do people often just leave these seals off or did I just not notice them?? Second... several years ago there was a very good post on Stovebolt showing the correct way to install these seals....can't find it....please help. sojo

I just did this twice following the filling station instructions. I did it the first time and the doors would not close. After much research I found that there are two thickness for these seals. Most of the vendors sell the thick stuff, the affordable stuff. Ordered the thinner stuff, from the filling station, pulled the doors off, stripped the molding, cleaned the glue off, and glue the thin stuff on. My suggestion tape on a couple small pieces in key spots and see if the door will function before gluing it on. Just saying.

I also put seals on the doors of my '55 1st series. Used the thicker seal and had problems closing the door. Odered the thinner seals and the doors are sealed and close great. I suggest removing the doors and prior to that, drill 1/8 diameter holes thru the door and each hinge. When installing the doors use couple 1/8 diameter pins to align the doors and then install the hinge bolts, That worked for me.
