Next, were all trucks in '46 black fendered, or was black fenders and a different body/bed color a regular option? Mine appears to have been red all over originally, but it has seven different colors over the years(!)
Lastly, were wheels painted black with the pinstripes, or were wheels body-color???

Where are your spare mounts? In 46 all 1/2 ton spare mounts were underneath the truck...No side mounts. Full color was an option. Black fenders were standard as was the bed wood. I don't have the resto kit from GM, this is only what I have read on websites and books.

Purchaser could opt for one color, to include wheels, at no extra charge. If your truck is a '46 you can save the cost of pinstriping the rims -- no pinstripes in '46. Tires were also blackwalls with one spare under the bed. This was promoted as a selling point for 38-46 trucks, since the spare did not take up bed space or obstruct access to the bed from the running board. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 543 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 543 | OK, that helps...The sidemounts were welded to the top rail of the bed and just didn't look quite right, even though they're obviously homebuilt. My son wants to go with a cream upper body color and black fenders & running boards. Since this will probably end up as a resto-rod, it'll have steels all around, but with a later drivetrain and an IFS front end. Thanks, guys.

Now I know I can paint them black or Brewster green (body color) and forget about the pinstripe. I've seen some with the wheels the Medium Cream and think that looks pretty nice too.
