i have a 69 1/2 ton with a 307 and it runs good but does use oil and smoke a litlle but not to much. what could be some of the causes for that?

valve guide wear, worn cylinder bore, worn piston rings are a few causes of oil consumption.

...if it smokes worse after it sits and you first start it up my vote would be the valve guides are worn out. If it does it going down the road then I'd say the rings are shot.

maybe there is sludge blocking the return holes in the heads.. i have seen that cause smoking in a other wise good engine
