How do I decipher the stamped number above the starter on the engine. N233112CAL 02 is the number if anyone can help,that would be great. I found the casting the casting number 839132 and I know it is a 1940 216 engine.

As cletis posted, "N233112CAL 02" is not a GM code.
You have a replacement engine and that code was probably made-up by a CA DMV office/officer and put on the engine by a dealer/shop.
