How do I decipher the stamped number above the starter on the engine. N233112CAL 02 is the number if anyone can help, that would be great. I found the casting the casting number 839132 and I know it is a 1940 216 engine.

A Suburban I considered buying from CA had a similar number. Does it match your title? | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 55 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 55 | Some info here Tech info 39 -40and here casting # page Welcome to the bolt lots of good info here | | | | Joined: Mar 2015 Posts: 15 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Mar 2015 Posts: 15 | Title has the the VIN # on it. I figured the California. I knew the vehicle came from there originally. I just didn't know if this number is just a serial number on the engine or does it mean something. | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | As cletis posted, "N233112CAL 02" is not a GM code.
You have a replacement engine and that code was probably made-up by a CA DMV office/officer and put on the engine by a dealer/shop.
