None of my earlier rides (60 F100,65 C-10,67 Camero) had PS and I'm getting plans together for a front/rear suspension change on my 50 3600. Any info is appreciated, Thanks | | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 | I have a M2 under my '40 pickup, with PS. I have a smaller Dia. Steering wheel , and wide tires up front, so PS is a necessity. Depending on how much weight you have up front, I think you can live without it' but why ? PS will improve resale value, and make it easier for wife to drive *g* | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 | Small block engine and up to 225 tires---No. My 34 coupe has an all aluminum 4.6 Modular engine and 195 tires so p/s would be a waste of effort. You can reach through the window and turn it lock to lock on clean dry pavement. We use quite a few rear mount no p/s VW R&P units as this often helps with steering shaft alignment.

Been running mine now for 15 years and not one problem. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 35 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 35 | I put manual in my 46 with sbc and and 225x15 tires and was ok but after just converting over to ps i can not believe i waited 4 yrs to change over. If you were building a Model A I would say no but for this you'll be happier with PS. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 | Wheel offset plays a critical role in steering 'weight' too.
I experienced this with an O/T car I bought a few years ago,it had those hideous white 8 spoke wheels on it and it was like driving a tank. I changed the wheels to a slightly narrower wheel 6" rather than 7" but with the correct offset and the difference was impressive to say the least. 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr. I've definately got this truck thing in my blood ... my DNA sequence has torque settings"Of all the small nations of this earth, perhaps only the ancient Greeks surpass the Scots in their contribution to mankind" Winston Churchill.
