Might go look at one if it has overdrive clark. Gentleman selling doesn't know much about it. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy eagleuh1, according to my parts book which covers that year/size, the diesel trucks were equipped with the Clark 204VO (overdrive) transmission, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 255 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 255 | Thanks 3B. He's going to look at it tomorrow morning. If it turns out to be an overdrive Clark, and it will work with my 270, I'll probably buy it then. The truck is pretty rusty, but he said the diesel is all there. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 255 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 255 | Looks like a 204V0356 overdrive Clark. Would this transmission fit the bellhousing for the 270 with 5 speed Clark,202V323. What gear ratios would the 204V0356 have? Thanks. You don't see many of those 3-71 General Motors Diesels (They weren't called Detroits until around 1965). Only available for two years(52,& 53), if i'm not mistaken. I had a chance to own one a few years ago, & didn't pull the trigger. Been kicking myself ever since.

I'm guessing the bell housing would be the same for the tranny end, just different at the diesel vs. gas engine end. Hope the input shafts are the same.Jim | | | | | Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 255 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 255 | Will post pics as soon as I have it. Back when they were being produced, everyone I know that had one was very disappointed in them because they were so underpowered. But now they are very rare and very much in demand as toys and collectors items. If its reasonably priced, I would buy it just for that reason. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,962 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,962 | Did you actually look at the truck or do you only have the posted pictures? If the engine etc. is complete. I have most of the stuff laying around to fix it. Also I wonder if the guy has anything like a forklift. It would be pretty hard to winch onto a tilt trailer with a wheel missing. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 Crusing in the Passing Lane | | Crusing in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 | One way I have moved a vehicle with a missing wheel, put a 2x4 or such under the brake drum, wet the trailer deck down, slide the wood on the wet deck, or put small dia. pipes under the wood.

(The drum MIGHT just roll along.) No big deal. I gave up trying to call him after I saw the ad for the engine. https://littlerock.craigslist.org/pts/4870891423.html | | |
