The side cowl vent bracket that is welded to the side of the truck just broke off from the body of the truck. Now the vent rattles around. Want to fix it without damaging the paint. Has anyone had this happen and how did you fix it? JB Weld? Will it hold? Please let me know.

Pictures would help. As far as removing the fender, I am having difficulty understanding how that will help with the cowl vent.

There is a firewall between the fender and the vent. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 863 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 863 | OK, I got my side vent door bracket remounted using small #4 stainless steel screws ans tapping the threads so the bracket would accept the screws. Now another problem. Installed the door and handle and the door won't close all the way. Now I know how the spot weld got broken! Someone thought it would be funny I guess to bend or overextend the vent door until it broke! Got to really watch at car shows!! Anyone got any ideas how I can get the door and lever to work properly? Any on have a picture of the side vent assembly? Checked my shop manual but nothing. Checked the assembly manual, again nothing. Any suggestions or HELP would be greatly appreciated!!

Keep trying, you will get it to work and not know how you did it. I have a spring loaded version on a 49 and I can't even get the bolts started to put it on. When I think I'm real close to getting a bolt started, it snaps closed like a bear trap.

But 9 grand later I've gotten to the doors and putting in the window channals, (all new stuff). A thin rubber strip with one side reased edge, I think goes in the top between upper door frame and channal. Tried differant ways but no matter what, it getts in the way of the inner trim frame mounting screws. Not realy sure if this is that right way to post this put its worth a try. I work like 24-7 and do alot of project vehicles along with running a bussines. So projects are mostly night & weekends. This truck is one of many that I have done restoration work or customizing on. I had to rebuild the frame and give it a nice 4 air bag lift susspension. its got a 88 1500 GMC rear frame and front Sussp. Parralell rear sussp I put on it really gave it some up & down range. Oh well, My door gasket problem needs to be figured out, dont wanna leave it out. I'll hang for another hr to see if some one can hook a brother up. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 14 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 14 | Well, I have figured it out. the reased edge goes against the out-upper molding inside the top and contours the channal. Then the inner mtrim sandwitches the channal in place. Ya'all keep-um straight out there. See Ya. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2013 Posts: 224 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2013 Posts: 224 | I have a 1947 3100 AD PU with the side vent with the knob and 'fiber' gasket as shown in Brad Allen's pictures. I also have two holes in the vent door. I'm thinking it was for a cowl antenna. The truck has/had no radio. Can't imagine the factory pre-drilling holes for no reason. I was ready to weld the holes shut and metal finish until I saw those pictures. Anyone have any insights for these holes? | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Never seen or heard of holes in the vent door for anything from the factory..... but then, I haven't seen everything. I think a previous owner did it...perhaps to put an antenna on it? | | | | | Joined: Jun 2018 Posts: 1 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jun 2018 Posts: 1 | Brad Allen Do you still have a drivers side spare assembly cowl vent available?
