Hello,

Getting ready to pick up a 1966 GMC custom Imperatore Horse 'Van'/4000 (?). Looks pretty solid with a little TLC needed here and there, the long run of the project is going to be a Food Truck. I'm a gearhead on the side to my culinary career, so all work will be done by myself for both the restoration and transformation.

Starting to cruise the forums and get familiar with what topics are common in which subs, but in the mean time I'm running into a bit of trouble off-hand confirming the model (4000, 5000, 5500...) via the VIN. If anyone has a thread or site in mind that might help I'd be eternally grateful. Title came as 'truck' with the vin and there are no emblems, sans the V8s on the hood. No tags under the hood either! looks like someone popped them off recently.

Also had and interesting tag in the glovebox

Enjoi, first thing, welcome to the Stovebolt site. I think you will find what you need here and you will also find several bolters from the MD area.

Since this is the Welcome Centre your questions will be better ask in the regular shop forums as not everyone stops here as they visit the bolt.
For your questions, since you have a big truck, you may want to as about the vin questions in the General Truck forum or the one for the bigger trucks in the Big Bolt Forum. I'm sure guys there can help you.
Visit the Tech Tips and the you will find the Vin Buster where you put in your vin # and it may decipher it for you.

Looks like I fall in a bad year range, Vin Buster nothing comes back, other vin links under the Tech Tips do not cover the 66 year (72+ or 64-).

I'll throw a thread into Big Bolts if you want to scrub this of the VIN question.

Take a look at john millimans fire truck and compare notes.

Will look up John's truck this evening when I have some time to do side by side comparison.

congrads on your truck, you wont find any v8 emblems on your truck,its a v6.1st note is no spark plug wires outside valve covers.those engines will pull a mountain,there sizes were,305 in pickups,(dad had a 67 3/4 ton with a 351). big bolts had 351,401 and the biggist v6 was a 478.i know some about your truck but there is alot more knowledge here.goos luck with your project

Welcome to the "Bolt"! your truck has a 305E V-6. you can tell the V-6-s,'cause the spark plugs are in the intake manifold. They are good engines,although some consider them "boat anchors" Check-out this '64 4000,on "Youtube". Subscribe to his channel,(Paulybuilt),and ask him for info.
