Hello everyone! My names Neil and I'm new to the forum. I'm preparing to put together (not restore!) My dad's 1946 Chevy 1/2 ton. To sum up quickly he bought this truck in the early 80s and drove it daily until the late 80s. He completely dismantled the truck to do a frame off resto (don't fix it ain't broken!) I was born shortly after and the project stopped. In a nut shell what I'm left with is all the parts needed to put the truck together, just like a big puzzle. This hasn't been touched in 25 years and I've been obsessed with the truck since I was a teenager. Basically I was to build it exactly the way it was 25 years ago, which was pretty much all factory. I plan to overhaul the 216 bone stock and use the original gear box. I'm very mechanically inclined, but I like in electrical and wiring. Looking forward to talking and exchanging ideas!

Hi Neil, I think there are quite a few 46s here on the site. They certainly are nice looking trucks and I wish you all the best in getting her back together. All the knowledge you need is here, just have to ask. There are more cornhuskers here, you might just meet some if you hang around.

Welcome to the Bolt! Lots of good advice and help here. Good luck with your project. I love '46's. I grew up with a '46 1 ton long box pickup.

Welcome Wacky Captaion to the STovebolt page. You will find just what you need right here in the forums. Don't be afraid to ask questions and thank you for deciding to save/rebuild the truck rather than call the scrap man. That 46 is a nice model and you will not be sorry.

I'm a fellow 46er - check my signature line - been driving her since 1985. Let me know if I can offer a hand in answering '46 related questions. There are lots of more experienced folks on this site than me, but I know some stuff that's directly related to your year of truck. '46 owner here .. in the middle of a frame off of a truck very similar to yours. Message me with any questions. Look on the side of your oil pan on that 216 - if it is stamped, "235", you have an early 235 (they look identical to the 216 on the outside) -- have fun!! One teensy bit of advice: go ALL NEW on brakes - shoes, springs, cylinders incl master, AND all brake lines. You may thank me later :o) smile
