What's cooking? I'll go first.

On the small scale, just replaced my front park/turn bulbs with really bright LEDs and although I don't like the color (bright white) I DO like the fact that I know I will be seen. The emergency flasher mode is just outstanding, well worth the $20+/bulb cost. Had to go with an electronic flasher as I have LED turn/stops in the rear.

Did an oil change from straight 30 weight to a 10-30 for easier starting for this DD through the colder months.

Next....

I still need to work the horn project and the gas level sensor/indicator project on the 62. Otherwise, it depends on what falls off the 66.

I'm preparing a space in my "barn" that I can keep some heat retained..."plastic walls" and celings. If I can get that to work, my plan is to work on "Chief" during the winter months. It needs work from front to rear bumper. I have a 350 and 5 speed tranny that goes in it. I know I need to go through everything else too.

We will see.........best laid plans..........

Hi Cosmo. I'm planning on a rear for my truck... Yeh I got the bug! Wonder where that happened? Think I found one just waiting on the stamping to verify the correct housing. Also I will be updating my turn signals to operate in conjunction with the brake lights, and like yourself, "LED's" with the 6 volt system. Little dark back there! Oh still trying to get the steering a little tighter. But then there is the wife??? A man can dream, right? Then I will be helping old Amtrak Joe with some of his endeavors. God help me! Victor your second in line after overhaulin finishes mine, LOL!

New headlight switch for the 45. Any one shorter than 4 foot 6 wanna lay upside down under my dash and do it for me? Also scored the correct guide R-13 tail light to replace the Ford, yes I said Ford 9N taillight currently on the truck...

For the Burb I need to finish the brake lines that I cut to fit the overdrive transmission I installed back in May. The "Cosmic"
56 rear end gear is installed and once I finish the brake lines it's time for a drive shaft and road test.

And new to the fleet is a 1946 Chevy COE. Big Bertha is her name and she's dying to run again. More to come on that one....

The 49 is RRRRRREADY FOR PAINT! Need to clean up and paint the seat frame, and heater, and reassemble the 216. Then order $1500.00 in new parts. Does it ever end?

Still making steady but slow progress on the 860. The list is endless but lately I have the clutch master set and plumbed, the brake valve gone through and relinstalled, and have spent about two weeks on the accelerator pedal! Obviously that's time spent here and there. At this point in the project, seems like everything is taking lots of time. I have a new headache rack being built (similar to the one that came one the truck) and my taillight housing are almost complete too.
So did you guys catch that, Jr. finally figured out that a big truck may be slower but way cooler! Can't wait to see my 46's ODSS Brother in person!

As soon as I get the new screened in porch done on the back of the house (should be done next week) I'll get back to work on the '56 3100. The list is miles long and I have almost everything needed to finish this 19 year project. The goal is to have it at Homecoming this Spring...

"She's a beut, Clark" The truck has a little while and a bit of work, but, very nice. Very surprised that he made that move,but, an epic save. Me, I plan on working on replacing all the cab seals and flooring on Dempsey.

OK, I'll add to it. Got to get the gas gauge working. Speedodometer would be nice, I'm using a Garmin gps now. I also need to remove my grille and move it up an inch or so and fix my hood so it will close properly. All this while I'm still driving it and having a blast. Also when is this spring home coming.

I'll be finishing up the front end work that I started on the 57 3100. Replacing the king pins and all bushings, new drag link, rebuild the ball joints, then on to adding a sway bar.

And at SOME point, I need to screw up the courage to try welding new skins and bottoms on the doors and fixing their innards.

Boy, I sure miss my old workshop at my last house...

The elusive 6V LED is something I want to figure out.

6v LEDs bulbs with the right bases seem to be getting more common.
Also, positive/negative ground 6v LEDs are now available.

The "problem" with the LED "bulb" is sometimes the orientation of the individual LEDs relative to the truck-lamp's lens.

Cosmo points out the need to switch from the old style flasher unit to a newer 6v electronic flasher. This is because the old style flasher "flashes" based on current draw - the LEDs draw very little current.

Here is side-by-side LED bulb and normal bulb on Bill Miles' 53 GMC.

The problem I have with the bulbs is they can only be seen straight on. Unless they've improved lately.

What I want is the full LED board brake lights like you can buy for 12V. I basically want Cosmo's taillights for my 6V setup.


Based on what I've read I'm going to need to master soldering and change the resistors in the 12V setup.

Got two here at HQ:

'65 needs a hydrovac rebuild and ole Charlie needs a rewire.

If we get both of those done, we may play with the Meadowbrook some more (the disc brake upgrade). But as that isn't a Stovebolt, maybe I shouldn't be talking about it ... I hope the moderator doesn't zap me...

Never been in Hydrovac land, I hear its scenic and sunny there. If you delay long enough we can attack that at The Spring Fling. Sweet and I can rewire Charlie in the time it takes you to fetch us a cold one. Do you have the wiring harness? Charlie merits a nice cloth covered harness. Sweet needs his done and methinks he already has his harness. We'll do a 2 for 1 deal. Start saving large pieces of cardboard so that we can slide around on the deck.

It hope we can get the old fire truck going again. We have needed it to water the compost pile from the collected rain from the pole barn. It will be a good winter project ... we can actually get the fire truck into the garage, so that might help with some warmth.

They probably aren't the cheapest but I was very impressed with the quality. So much that I had them build me a harness for the Big big bolt GMC.
An no, I don't think I want to admit to anyone what I paid for that little bundle of unobtainium!!

For what it's worth, I got my cloth-covered harness from Vintage Wiring of Maine. Not sure about YNZ, but VWOM sends along a nicely done and easy to follow installation guide, too. It made rewiring fun (at least when I did it to my '49 BigBolt), plus it will give you something useful to read while you're recovering from the sticker shock in the oxygen tent ...

I don't remember who it was but a recent (last few months) Gallery story had a fellow who used a cloth wiring harness as a replacement. You could post a new thread to see if the fellow shows up ... or go back and read the last 10 or 15 stories.

I was impressed that he still could get a cloth WH. I remember he commented he was glad he went thru the extra effort to get cloth.

i would like to get the gas gauge, horn, and speedometer working.

But i really need to get the passenger window installed.
Better shutting doors would be nice, need new rubber on the driver door.

Once that gets done it is time to tackle the 261 engine.

Should be a fun winter! leading to a better summer with lots of driving!! - even in the rain!

I'd like to get my cab welded back together enough to install and drive the truck to York for the ATHS show in May. Also hang fenders and a hood on it, headlights would be good.

It'd be smart to swap out the 4.56 axle gears for 3.54 that I already have on hand.
