If you are asking if you can install the replacement engine that has a 54 clutch housing attached to it, the answer is "no, not on a 1949 chassis".
You can use your 1949 clutch/housing/assembly (from your old 1954 engine) and whichever u-joint is in better condition.

IF your state used the engine number as the VIN on the title, as most did pre '55 and that engine is no longer with the vehicle, there will likely be titling issues arise later if you don't re-title when swapping an engine.
