The 54 235 engine in my 49 1/2 ton is still stuck after trying everything. I have found a working 54 235 with transmission. Question, can I unbolt the engine at the motor mounts and universal point and reinstall new or does it require other steps?

If you are asking if you can install the replacement engine that has a 54 clutch housing attached to it, the answer is "no, not on a 1949 chassis".

You can use your 1949 clutch/housing/assembly (from your old 1954 engine) and whichever u-joint is in better condition.

Beyond the mechanical end of the question is the titling issue. IF your state used the engine number as the VIN on the title, as most did pre '55 and that engine is no longer with the vehicle, there will likely be titling issues arise later if you don't re-title when swapping an engine.
