Well after 3 evenings work and a ton of connectors, butt splices and zip ties Terry B and I finally got the wiring in a semi presentable looking state. The PO had made quite a mess of things. Now all the lights work as designed. Another item crossed off the To Do list, only 30 more to go.

I did emergency brake pad surgery in the motel parking lot on the Suburban.

Made a second attempt to get the lights sorted out. Found a faulty turn signal flasher. All is well again. Going to try to make a serious dent in the list the next couple of days.

Sounds like it was just cobbed together for resale. Hopefully you'll get it all worked out soon.

Started it up for the first time this weekend. Sat for a few years before we bought it, thought no fuel to the carb was a faulty diaphragm in the pump, but ended up being an old fuel line that had softened and kinked. Very happy day

I looked at a heap of parts I have strewn everywhere, wondered which way to go, so I built a campfire and cooked hot dogs over it.

Then, I went back to scrubbing rust off the truck frame. It ain't going to take itself off.

I got some fuel line to go from the tank to the pump. I need some more double flaring practice before I do the pump to the carb line.

Put the fuel pump back on the 235 & then I surgically cleaned all the parts to my carburetor. A good rifle cleaning kit is perfect for cleaning carbs.

It looks in great shape,with hindsight I should've had mine blasted but there's a lack of places here that I could trust or afford.
There are media blasters here but the nearest one is roughly 300 miles away.

Stripped some more paint from a fender. Goal is to have the cab, doors, and front sheetmetal stripped and ready for primer by spring.

Sometimes I hate being in school AND working... just not enough time in the day! Slow progress is better than no progress!

Yep- I agree. I just wire-wheeled some antique crud off the frame in the engine compartment. The frame is solid!

GM Jaeger, How are you striping the paint and what are you doing to address and rust on the bare metal. I plan to strip and prime in the spring to avoid rust over the winter.

tried putting the 283 back in the sub. Won't go. Center discharge rams horn exhaust manifolds hit the crossmember. Trip to the boneyard. Traded the center outlet rams horns for a pair of rear outlets. Will try to put the 283 back in today. need to fab front motor mounts on the crossmember so the block mounts have something to bolt to. Hope that engine goes back in because I'm running out of warm weather. So far so good.More pics to follow.

Tried to start then 37 but a dead battery and ran out of light so I will try again.

Installed a fuel pressure regulator. Engine has been running rich. With help from the carb gurus in the engine forum I figured it couldn't hurt to install one. Cured the rich problem now on to more pressing things, like a car show this evening.

Gave the truck an oil and grease then put the camper back on , ready for http://targa.co.nz/what-is-targa this week.

Painted the front part of the frame & took the bed off. This is a sectional operation, it looks like.

It was neat to smell the original bed wood; it was solid heart pine lightered/kindlin. Some pictures.

Over the last 3 days, I stripped the paint off the right front fender with a DA and a few other things. Yesterday, finished blasting the nooks and crannies and got it epoxy primed.

Also got a coat of primer over the filler on the upper and lower grill bars.

Some of the fender had been blasted this spring, but had began to flash, so mostly just needed a clean-up. Found 2 dead mice in the pressure pot, but never could get it work without clogging so, I used it to hold the siphon tube from my cabinet gun and that worked out well.

Installed a radiator overflow. Engine has been puking a bit of antifreeze now and then so instead of dumping it on the ground now it will recycle back to the radiator. Fortunately the engine does not overheat, seems to be a cap problem that I can take care of next time I'm at the local FLAPS.

Got the truck moved in the garage.

With my dedicated owner/driver at the wheel, the truck rolled fairly easy with the bumpers, bumper brackets, radiator support, radiator, inner fenders, fenders, hood, engine, transmission, drive shaft, bed, tailgate, and side mirror removed.

As for weight, the side mirror made all the difference in ease of movement, I believe.

Stripped paint on the drivers side front fender, removed the foggy and delaminating windshield, stripped, primed, and painted the dash.

Project over winter... strip the rest of the cab, and get ready for primer.

Took the brakes apart last night as the Parking brake was frozen on the rear drivers side. Seems as though the cable decided it didnt want to move anymore. Started looking at the signals to try and get them working properly. Looks like a faulty signal flasher.

Drilled and tapped 1/2 by 4 by 6 plates to weld to the crossmember for the front mounts to bolt to. really tight squeeze for the 283. Had to mill the stiffening rib of the passenger side manifold for clearance in the frame. I think it will go in now with enough room. Looks like the next problem will be getting the R&P input shaft to clear the drivers side manifold.Its coming along slow but it is coming along.Not going to make it before it snows. Will take it home from the hangar to my heated garage and finish it up over the winter. Why do these things take 3 timeslonger than you think?

Weeds, its because its a 3x bigger job than we "think" it is. I think we all are guilty of this.

Making progress on the Suburban brake rebuild. I just got the passenger side done except for the hose. Had the rotor turned, re-packed the bearings, installed a rebuilt caliper and new pads.

This is a POL kit that had a caliper go bad after 25,000 miles. Ruined the rotor on the left side. I bought a new one. That side is next. I'm taking an ice cream break.

Problems so far:

The caliper needed some grinding to fit the bracket. I expect it will take more grinding to get the wheel on. The POL one did.

The bolt to attach the hose doesn't match the threads in the new calipers. Good luck- I have a '73 frame out back with bolts that will work. Bad luck- The copper washers supplied with the calipers won't fit these bolts.

I went back out and assembled the left side rotor and hub assembly. I had to lay out, drill and tap 3 holes in the rotor to hold a wheel spacer. I have been fretting over it for 2 days. It took about an hour to get'r done.

Drop off the SM420 trans at the local transmission
shop.I gave them the bearing overhaul kit.Hope to save
money.Allen my shop friend said about $200.00 in labor cost on the trans and me supplying the bearing kit at $148.00. I don't think that's bad, they done all my
transmissions in the past . Allen says its a 1965 with
the rib on its side and it has the back up bracket
on it.I checked the numbers sometime ago I thought it
was a 1960.Thats ok with me.

I got the left brake installed on the Suburban tonight. I'll bleed them tomorrow.

Got them bled and took a test drive around the pasture. She stops. Tomorrow I'll be posting a Stovebolt driving report.

Finished the install of the coolant overflow and changed out the fuel filter. Turned the fuel pressure regulator down to 4 1/2 lbs. Try it there for a while, no real problem just seeing what different settings will do.

Replaced entire brake system, pressed in new wheel studs and assembled entire front end on my '41 1 1/2 ton truck. Just need to bleed the brakes and install exhaust and she's ready for a test drive!!

Last week I decided it was time to get the old '53 3100 out of the spot in the barn it has occupied for the last 26+ years.

I took off all four rims and rotted tires, cleaned up the rims a bit and put four used tires on them. Using metal valve stems, all four original rims were able to go tubeless.

Saturday we pushed the truck out of it's resting place and to the front of the barn. The rats had made a home under the seat, so I removed it and cleaned out their almost three decades of habitat.

Next up, for this week, I am going to rig up a drawbar, so I can pull the truck out of the barn and around the side for a good overall pressure washing. The drawbar will be necessary (instead of just pulling it with a chain) because the terrain slopes and the truck has no brakes.

Sounds like a great project. Be sure to take lots of pics. Hopefully the first 35 years it wasn't in the barn didn't cause much rust and bruises.

The Bubba truck had a monotone green production paint job when I picked it up 2 years ago. Not having the correct front grill area has really been bugging me, so finally got around to fixing the problem.

Don't stone me to death, but I forgot to mention that I got my 55.2 235 engine back from the machine shop two weeks ago. I painted it the exact, period-correct gray color for a 2014 1955 235 engine.

Grill really came out nice. Good work.

Good Humor truck, just got back SM420 trans, Overhauled new bearing kit. I`m using the 11 inch clutch setup.Start installing it this weekend. Also working on the rear axle that's another story.
