My old man backed his tractor right into the grille of my '49. It was already an aftermarket piece from Classic Parts. It was OK, but I think it could have been better as far as fit and finish goes. So, who sells the best replacement grille? The single reply in my other thread mentioned something about rechromed and powder coated original grilles. Anyone know anything about those?

Your best bet is to find an original grille. Lots of parts involved that don't just fall into place.

(lots of names are almost the same)back in 2009 for $349 including shipping. It is not the best in the world but I just cleaned it a couple days ago and it seems to be holding up good. Anybody know how to remove chrome? it didn't fit all that great when I put it back together either.

Back when I was in printing we use to get the cylinders hot and do it with muriatic acid. Not sure of the strength but it would melt it off. Not sure this is something a hobbyist can do to day but I'm sure someone will chime in besides me.
....maybe if you ask the shop to de-chrome their lousy job they would offer to re-chrome it. Are ALL of the aftermarket grilles made by the same place (China)? The prices vary wildly...
