I have greased the spots I can grease. Do the leaf springs make a lot of noise when going over bumpy roads? I can't tell if they have rusted and squeak when going over rough roads or if it is coming from somewhere else? Any ideas on how to make it quieter? Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks in advance

Short of sealing up the cab with sound deadener, I'm not sure what you can do. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 | I think what you are experiencing is what we all enjoy at various decibel levels. These trucks even when reassembled like mine in a frame-off have numerous metal on metal points of contact. I just enjoy it as part of the experience as I don't feel chasing them all down is really practical.

Mine's just fine. I'm OK with rattles, but squeaks really bug me and I try to find them. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 72 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 72 | As Click & Clack often recommend, just turn up the radio and enjoy the ride! You can buy spring separator or squirt some grease between the springs but most of us just listen to the "symphony" as we drive.

Paid a buck and sliced it into 1 3/4" strips which I placed between my spring leaves. Seems to work but after a while the slip out sideways. You can buy the rubbery stuff with a ridge on each side to keep it in place. Bob Drake Ford parts sells it. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 | Nothing to worry about,it's just 'talking' to you. Look at any youtube video of in-cab shots of these old trucks driving and you'll see (hear) you're not alone.

Some things that come to mind are, broken springs, badly worn spring shackle bushings, worn king pins or tie rod ends. Carl

We just turn up the serious radio and it all goes away when were out cruising to the tunes. I think maybe the leaf springs rusted some after driving the truck more and are making more noise. Right front leaf spring causes a lot of noise when going over big bumps. I am going to get underneath and try some oil and grease on the leaf springs and see if it gets quieter. Doesn't bother me that much, just trying to get a little more of a quiet ride. Good roads I hear nothing, unfortunately most roads now days are going (bad).
