Does changing to the T5 prevent this. I will be using one of the adapter plates on the market between the trans and bell housing.

The 14 spline S10 input shaft can usually be exchanged with a BRAND NEW 10 spline T5 input shaft made for a Jeep T5. The new T5 shaft would cost about $75 total. The swap is not difficult but I'm not sure how comfortable you would be doing it. I also sent you a PM. This article in the Stovebolt TECH TIPS section probably has the info you need to keep the foot starter, but I have not read through it. Here's another article. And one more article.

I had to have an adapter because of 46 small trans pattern to bellhsng, your 51 has same pattern as T-5 but must make some mods as Lugnutz expained. Lots of tech tips on the T-5s on this site and over on Inliners.org plus others, read them all. Love my T-5. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Not out of my comfort zone, been twisting wrenches for 45 years from airplains to locomotives. Age makes me think a lot longer to make sure it is right and I dont't hurt myself.
