Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 2 Moderated | | Moderated Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 2 | I was wondering if anybody knew if the PTO off of a 1944 Chevrolet 4x2 Civilian with a five speed tranny and chevy engine would fit onto a 1942 Chevrolet 6x6 with a five speed tranny and GMC 270. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2012 Posts: 170 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2012 Posts: 170 | OLBLUE1941, I've found after getting into a 6x6 CCKW build, that very little if any thing in the running gear of a civilian truck fits a military one. I may be wrong but everything was different in my 6x6. There are folks here that will know so just hang on. You may have a cocktail as installing GMC engines and 5 speed transmissions into Chevys is/was a common occurance. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 30 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 30 | If I remember correctly the CCKW has a clark 5 speed. Im sure you could find a pto for such a tranny. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 1,159 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 1,159 | I thought that P.T.O.'s were universal units,as far as mounting plate configuration. The difference may be that the older units incorporated straight-cut gears,as opposed to helical-cut. I've seen SM 420's with plates on both sides of the case. hope this helps.

I changed my post. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 2 Moderated | | Moderated Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 2 | Thanks for all the help. I misunderstood the guy on the phone, it is a GMC 6x6, not a chevy. I was aware of the difference in gears, I was just curious if anyone knew if it was a direct fit. Once again, thank you. | | |
