What was the original paddle button switch for a 49? Did it say Heat or Air on the button?

Thanks.

I have generally found Air associated with the Air Flow deluxe heaters and Heat with the Recirculating type. There are variations in color and text as some switches are labeled DEF into 1948 models. The correct switch will be labeled with Delco-Remy or Cole-Hersee markings on the side but even these are sometimes missing. I do not believe Ark-less or rotary switches of other makes to be correct for these applications. NOS heater kits contain the above referenced switches as part of the kit, they were also available separately from dealers.
