The PCV orifice diameter is the key part you need to look after. To small and it never sucks out enough condensation, to large and it affects performance (you really are simply creating a vacuum leak after the carb).
Agree, as I previously stated here. I'm sure 'close' is good enough. But most of my manuals that deal with trucks that come with and without PCV included the PCV orifice as a source of poor idle/performance.
Agree again. But, theres no factory spec for a PCV on a 49 216 as it wasn't even an option at the time. Close enough will more than likely be good enough in this case.If your motor is blowing by that bad, fix it.
The blowby is decreaseing w/useage and it's running to good to tear down at this point and I'm not inclined to take it off-line for rebuild. Moving the PCV out further from the block and mounting it in the draft tube seems to have just about eliminated the manifold oil sucking problem. It hasn't totally eliminated the condensation in the valve cover and I'm still working on that
