You need an engine hoist to install a crate motor

Every other tool can be rented (for free) from a local auto parts stores. I rented a ridge reamer rather than buying (it was a $20 part on ebay, but I would use it only once). Ditto for ring and valve compressors. You can but they pretty cheap, or rent them. I lean towards buying them simply because when you need one, the FLAPS will be closed

Warranty's are fine and all... but you pay for that. I'd rather put my own hands on it and do it myself. Other than a torque gauge, you can find ways to build an engine from parts.... go to youtube and see how people in second and third world countries rebuild motors that run for years... you would be amazed at how little you need to build a motor.
