I mounted a home made tank behind the rear axle on my '37. The fill location on stock '37s is under the passenger seat, very uncool to make the wife get out when fueling. Mine is made from 14 gauge steel mounted high up in the frame, lowest part is still bumper level. I don't worry much because of the heavy steel used and all the braces I put inside it. If the truck ever does get hit, theres two feet or more of frame, bumper, trailer hitch, and bed thats got to move before hitting the tank.
