I feel my 52 was original and it had some "black putty" type stuff where the bolts go through. In my OPINION it is there as a sealer. I've seen this same black putty many times where there were body holes with bolts and potentially could let water in. When I put my hood hinges back on I rolled me up a strip of the 3M black weather stripping stuff, into a ball, and put it back in.
