The unsold 1946 trucks were sold in 1947, hence the 1st series '47 designation. The GMC grill was the same from 1941-47.1 up to at least the 370 series trucks. They also had larger trucks and road tractors that had the grill as a straight up stack of bars like the one pictured below.

This is how the serial number is decoded;
E=1946
F=COE
302=300 series (1 1/2 ton) whilst the '2' means 132 5/8" wheelbase.
Serial number is 896=Meaning the 896th off the assembly line of the 1043 300 series COE trucks built in 1946.
This came with a 236 standard.
The numbers on the drivers side firewall are nonsense and don't mean anything from what I can tell. Look above the spring perch in front of the front axle and see if there is anything written on the outside of the frame on either side of the truck. It may just be a grease pencil mark or stamped there, but GMC's used them until '47.1 and it should show EF-302 also.
