why "suspect" a short? get out the meter and start checking - you either have a fuel problem or an ignition problem, determine which .... take off the fuel line at the carb and stick it in a can - crank the engine and see if it's getting fuel ..... check power to the coil, distributor and plugs, especially when cranking, might be an ignition resistor bad or the coil itself .... recheck everything you've done to it since the problem first occurred, problems can easily be caused by repair work
