Lonnie, let me add THANK YOU for taking the time to do this. I now know what I need to know. I did get your email and the pics were great. I think my retainer is shaped just a "TAT" different but I'm sure its meant to be the same and I think I can "mash" the rubber down enough to get the screws in....if not some new weather stripping may be in order.
I'm good to go now... and I'm sure this nice photo of that retainer will be used time and time again.
EDIT: just food for thought. While trying to figure this out I looked at at least a half dozen AD's, or more, and NONE of them had the retainer on the doors! I looked at a nice "modified" one tonight at a cruse-in and guess what...no retainer.
