I think that for the average enthusiast wanting a good, reliable, turnkey everytime daily driver I have to agree with HRJohn. A nice GM 350 crate motor with electronic ignition, stock manifolds, dual exhaust and a Quadrajet in this day and age would be the way to go.
Remember that the post '67 smallblocks won't vent with the stock'67 and earlier covers.
You could run all this equipment on a 283 also and have the same benefits. You won't go wrong either way. A 283 is as dependable as any 350.
