Re-check your valve adjustment. If the compression is the same, or close in all the cylinders, it sounds like you're dealing with some too-tight valves, either sticky, or just adjusted a little too tight. A couple of ounces of oil in the cylinders should raise the compression temporarily if the rings are the problem. There will be little or no increase on a wet check if the valves are causing the problem.
