It's definitely a babbit pounding 235.
I'm not sure what the "A" before the prefix signifies, but I do know that the 3600's (like mine) came with engines that had prefixes that read ADCA.
My guess is that it's an "application" prefix that is tied to the 1.5 ton models.
As far as I know, the engines are the pretty much the same between 1942 and 1946. All of the parts should be interchangable. The thing that you have to watch for is when you insert in a full pressure 235 (1953-1962). They are a little longer and the parts don't always work.
